Interactive player-editor notes

Postby norv on Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:32 am

I have been playing with Kaltura's interactive player-editor in my Wordpress blog here http://www.longforest.com/
and in a phpBB forum here http://www.longforest.com/phpBB/viewtop ... 504#p41504

Some things I have noticed include -

When you edit several clips into a movie, the movie plays correctly in the edit window mode, but clips get mixed up in player mode.
Some clips seem to split and jump around on the timeline. So instead of
SHOT A > SHOT B > SHOT C
you see in the player
SHOT A > SHOT C(FIRST BIT) > SHOT B > SHOT C(LAST BIT)

After you add a clip, you are presented with the Title, Tag pane. You cannot <TAB> from the Title text-box to the Tag text-box which slows the workflow.

Captured webcam clips are sped up, although the webcam is working OK with Skype, for example. My Logitech Quickcam seems to run at variable speeds at around 22fps, maybe it is played back at 25fps?

And for me, the Upload file browser will not accept upper case file extensions, eg. AVI, .WMV, .MPG etc. Maybe just my machine?

I'm on 32 and 64 bit debian Linux, browser is rebadged Firefox called Iceweasel. Other non-Linux users are seeing similar things with the mixed-up playback.

This interactive video player is very, very good. I hope to help on a phpBB mod if I can see the edits played backed in the correct sequence on the timeline. Thanks again for kaltura! :D

Thanks norv :)

The problem you experienced with the mixing is caused by webcam recordings, and we worked on this in the new version of the player.
Currently the new version is under testing and when it's I'll ping you with it :)

The webcam problem is a major issue we're having with red5 (our streaming server of choice), it is mainly caused by slow connection to the server, but may also be inflicted by other factors.

The tab control in the contribution wizard is a known bug, the CW uses Flex's list control and item renderers, tab is not handled by this componenet, so at the moment this is not handled.
The upper-case extensions is a good feedback, and we'll handle this bug in the next release (no date yet, sorry). You can however, to update your uiconf and approved extensions to allow the uppercase format as well (for that though, you should become a partner and stop using the userzone).

Kudos on your decision to contribute! I'm looking forward to your Kaltura Media extension for phpbb :)
